I don't know the technical details of adding a CF drive to the PIsmo, but I wanted to do the same but from the research I did, you get a performance drop for reasons to do with the older technology in the bridge from PCMICIA - unless there is another way to connect a CF card I'm unawares of. It seems the best bet is to use a SolidState drive. It's more pricey though.
You also have to remember a rated performance of a battery will never reflect real world usage. I thought there was a 300mhz Pismo version too..but I could be wrong. Would not a 500mhz be the most efficient? Faster processing means less time used..or is the saturation of energy of cycles too much for savings?
