A Pismo will run successfully from a compact flash but it needs to be at
least 200x speed or higher class memory card. I have successfully run Tiger
Panther and Jaguar from it. I've used Adata, Centon and Sandisk cards.
There may be some reliability issues over time using a CF card though.

The generic CF adapters work okay but you need to remove one center pin from
it and you cannot really tell which pin it is so I recommend getting two in
case you mess one up. You can also try bending the pin first. They are
around $1-3 on eBay.

New batteries are cheap for Pismo on eBay and other sources, there are
higher capacity batteries than originals that may improve battery life. The
issue with old ones is they have degraded with age even if you have one that
works. Lastly, when the Pismo was introduced one of the features promoted
was that you can use it on a coast to coast airplane flight since the DVD
bay will take a spare battery. That was one of the revolutionary design
features that was breakthrough for the time.

I find the Pismo battery lasts longer than battery on a Powerbook G4 Alu 12
or 15.
