>> has anyone ever tried one with an ssd? > It's PATA (IDE). If you can find a drive, it will probably work. You might be > better off with CompactFlash (CF) cards and CF to IDE adapters. I recently put a KingSpec brand PATA SSD in my Pismo (400MHz/1GB RAM/10.4.11). It cut boot time from over a minute to under 45 seconds. It also feels more responsive. (I only use it as a webserver and have not done any real tests.)
Cost was around UKĀ£80 for 64GB. Pismo is fractionally lighter and completely completely quiet and (probably).
