Yep. Well, I read that there is a point somewhere in the G4 PowerBook line that 
they *might* have transitioned to USB, but ADB was still used for at least the 
PMU from what I can tell. It shocks a lot of long time Mac users when they 
realise that Apple only removed the external ADB connector, not the capability!

So, anyway, my point was - is this an internally ADB based PowerBook? That 
might be one reason why USB works differently here. Corrupt driver? Hardware 
fail? Might also be the connection. ADB is just a serial protocol, so I guess 
it was cheap and simple to implement.

I'm pretty sure, when Apple *did* start using USB internally, they routed the 
keyboard and trackpad through the *same* USB hub (erm, is that the correct 
term?) as the external ports, so you'd kind of expect a global USB failure to 
be present. So, if it is internally USB, the only other think I can think of, 
past what has already been suggested, is that the actual keyboard/trackpad 
device might be having an issue as a USB HID? Is it a self contained unit, or 
is some of the device broken out on to the main logic board?
