Tried shining a bright light on the screen? If there's a faint image visible, it's your backlight. If not, it's likely the LCD panel, although the motherboard could be damaged.
The video connectors on the motherboard may have been knocked loose as well. Also, never put a laptop into checked luggage. Firstly, there's a significant chance of damage, and secondly, a large number of airlines/countries only allow Lithium Ion batteries in hand luggage due to fire risk.
