It's not unusual for a Pismo to behave this way if the PRAM battery has never
been replaced. Yours probably is dead or nearly dead and thus the Pismo has no
startup parameters to check. To get your Pismo to start again, lift the
keyboard and disconnect the PRAM battery. The connector is just to the right of
center at the bottom edge of the keyboard opening. It's a two-wire connector
with one black and one red wire, IIRC. Plug in the Pismo and press the start
button. It should chime and boot. Reconnect the PRAM battery, which probably
has been holding just enough juice to let you start in the past, but died while
you performed thermal paste surgery. Buy a new PRAM battery if you can't
remember ever replacing it, or do this trick whenever it won't start in the
future. Your choice. :^)
