Few time ago I read on this list about a chinese converter with you can
attach a SD card to a PATA enclosure fitting in lieu of an HD, relatively
cheap ...
on the other side you can find a good HD for peanuts on ebay.
IMHO: on a PISMO G3 you won't watch films or DVD's, nor use as storage, so
a 40GB HD is more then enough, and you can buy new, refurbished or simply
second hand for peanuts.

 in my opinion you need at least 32 GB, but first check if adapter can
support ... I have a card reader that read a maximum of 1GB card
