As this is pretty much the most expensive 15" model, that may well not be true. It is what it is - SL will run on unsupported hardware, so long as you are able to swap out the disk and are willing to accept that it will require tweaking. As you have noted - this s not likely to work on a Retina MBP, nor any Air with a SSD soldered to the logic board.
