Many thanks all! Now I'm guessing/thinking the nature of the seated CPU could be the "root issue" as these problems began when attempting intensive procedures (repeatedly failing to copy 20K files to a SD card) --> generating additional heat and maybe unseating the CPU(?), which I can't access as the screw-heads are stripped: I can only press on the heat shield)
BUT, the machine still seems to be trying: now I can't get single-user mode to work: just the "can't find start-up" messages -- have done Disk Repair and Disk Warrior which have said everything's OK including the drive... (is there any point in replacing the drive?) I've re-aaplied the Tiger combo. /:brad On Thu, 27 Feb 2014 [email protected] wrote: > > 4) Make certain the Pismo CPU is pressed in and seated correctly before > rebooting. > > I found a similar issue in Apple's forums: > > <https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1769107> which points to a messed up > drive. > > > My guess is that the drive has soft errors that can be > fixed by either repair and re-apply the combo or > re-installing from scratch. > -- -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Books, a group for those using G3 iBooks and PowerBooks (we run a separate list for G4 'Books).
