I can't explain why it worked, but this began happening to me after I upgraded the HD in my Wallstreet. The solution was to eject the right media bay [CD-ROM] and then press the power key. Odd? But, it managed to start up just fine. It would usually restart just fine after that, but occasionally it would whirr, putter and click and have to just repeat.
