In talking about battery life, now that my year-old Ti-Book battery is
failing, they mentioned I could extend battery time by turning off the

that? Is there a way to turn off some of the memory or other things I might
not be using that add to power drain and heat production? >>

You can set energy saver settings separately for when you're on AC or on
battery. When on battery, I keep my screen dimmer to begin with (saves
energy). I keep my sleep settings on a rather short leash -- I have my hard
drive go to sleep after a minute of inactivity, and my screen go to sleep
after two minutes of inactivity. I don't know what types of things you're
doing, but when I'm on the road, I'm usually either just doing word process
or checking email and the like -- not hard drive intensive tasks so sleeping
the hard drive makes sense, as it's really only needed when I'm saving or
opening files. I have the display on such a short sleep setting because
that's where a real power drain is. If I'm constantly typing or scrolling,
the screen stays on, but if I'm in a meeting, where someone may be speaking
and I have no need of taking notes, having the display go dark really
preserves the batter.
