Hi, Due to attrition, I am now using a Ti G4 500 MHz @ work (from a PowerBook G3). Everything seems fine, but I can't do a "restart" ever. It looks like it's going to restart, the screen goes black, but then nothing. I can still hear the hard drive spinning. The only way to get back from this is pulling the power and removing the battery. Then it starts up fine. If I do a "shutdown", it shuts down fine all the way and powers off, as it should, and I can start it up normally the next time. This problem happens in both OS 9.2.2 and 10.1.5. I can't zap the PRAM, as it just sits there w/ a blank screen when I do that (i never hear the chimes). I only hear the chime when powering up and it never gets to the chimes when it locks up if I try to "restart". I ran Tech Tools Pro 3.0.3 and it did tell me I had a problem w/ my PRAM. I cleared it using Tech Tools Pro and subsequent tests are fine. All other tests are fine, too.
Any ideas? Is this a common problem? I suppose I can continue using this as it is, but it bothers me a bit that it's not really right. Does this sound like hardware or software? The fact that it happens in both OS's leads me to believe it is hardware. I also tried to reset the power management module, but no difference. Thanks for any suggestions.
