I did indeed stay up until 6 am reading post upon post from lombard users that could not get X to work on their machines- and their machines all had the same symptoms that mine did. I continued to read on, as each of them told of their calls into apple to get their processor cards replaced, that some were being charged 350$ (and as a poor college student, that was out of the question) and some were NOT being charged. Because I am such a late adopter to mac os X, I would be calling into apple nearly a year later, which worried me a bit. The problem is, if anyone else is having it, is that the processors made in march of 1999 (serial number QT935------, even if that doesn't signify date) all have a problem with their MPU. replacing this errant version 2.2 with a refurbished 2.2, 3.0, or 3.1 card is supposed to make os X work like a dream. I called apple, and within 50 minutes, they had bounced me to a service rep and agreed to send out a box for me to send in my bronze, replace the card, and send it back within a week at no cost to me- keep in mind that I have no apple care nor limited warranty. Good shit. Keep in mind that although I've done my fair share of complaining about X, I decided to still go through this to give it my best shot, the main reasons being an off-list discussion with Laurent, and the fact that I felt that apple was going beyond its duties for me so I should owe them another shot. I hope this card replacement will do the trick. Oh yeah, on another important note- lots of people on the lists I read talked about apple replacing their hinges without being asked to nor charging the users, usually as a side note. Is there some reason for this? If there is, will apple be doing likewise to my hinges? Thanks guys, for pointing me in the right direction once again!! -Dylan (= -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
