Isn't it funny how life has it's little coincidences?

No sooner had I posted the email about my "Switcher's Story" that I had
packed up my Wallstreet in my (unpadded) backpack. You know the kind
you are suppose to wear around your head so the strap sits across your
chest? Well, I had it hanging just on my one shoulder, not around my
head. I motioned for it to slide off my shoulder and into my hand.
The thing was it sorta, kinda, just missed my hand. Damned thing
landed screen-first on the driveway pavement.

After screaming a profanity that would wake the dead, I quickly
regrouped. I immediately was instilled with a sense of hope and
checked it for physical damage. Nothing that I could find other than
the monitor being a little out of whack. A few sharp smacks of my palm
did the trick there. After expressing the moment to my father, who had
gone around the corner to put the trash out front, I continued to
mutter profanities all the way to the train station.

After a 25-minute train ride which was agony, I ran into work. My boss
dinks around on his PowerBook 1400, as a hobbie, I should add. I
borrowed his power adapter, heard the battery reset itself and booted
it up. OS 9 loaded... no noticeable software damage to that system.
Reset the date & time. Rebooted. Switched the startup disk to Jaguar.
Rebooted again. OS X.2.2 loaded... no noticeable software damage.
CD-ROM drive is fine. Modem is fine (Connected to Earthlink without a
hitch.)

I just goes to show you what a resourceful Mac user and his Mac-using
friends can do with a mishap. After reading some stories, I consider
myself lucky. I hope I won't have this scare again.

Thanks for reading!

- John
