Except that the person asking the question specifically mentioned what he does with his computer, and none of the things you mentioned were on the list. His uses are quite simple and non-demanding. In such circumstances, he could run for days or weeks without crashing 9. :-) > Not to be picky but he might not need more RAM or a larger hard drive. > 3-4 years from now he will not be able to buy Classic Mac OS software > so at that point it will be a default decision. But if he has a stock Pismo, I would not recommend that he move to X without adding RAM and possibly a bigger hard drive. My 10 gig is almost full, and I could never fit Jag on it, so I'm in this boat currently. :-( >> Do you have any peripherals such as scanners or digital cameras? This is a wonderful theory, but both my digital camera (a cheapo, granted) and my scanner have been left behind up to now, and my scanner isn't exactly old. I suppose it may be possible to find a generic driver, and it may be possible that there will be a driver, but I wait for now... In any case, for those with simple needs, who already are running OS 9, the upgrade to X is not as obvious as it could be. :-) I think that the main consideration is whether or not you are going to be upgrading your hardware (or significant numbers of your software) soon. If not, then jump to X ASAP. If you are going to upgrade your hardware in the next year or so, it will probably be better and cheaper to wait. Even then, it might be wise to start collecting X-compat. software even now. -- Jon Glass Krakow, Poland <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sometimes the majority only means that all the fools are on the same side. -- G-Books is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
