Hm. My local Apple service center claims he can fix them, but the one I gave him, he tore the ribbon cable inside, so I fear to give him another. :-) I have read somewhere online, that the motor is what is going bad in these things. If this is true, it is possible that drives now coming out of Apple to replace them are using better motors, but if that is true, it happened after the Pismo was discontinued. I bought my Pismo in January, after the G4 came out, and it was manufactured in January (shipped directly from Taiwan).
