I started experiencing some other abnormalities with the system. I could no
longer mount a CD, burn a CD, and Disk Copy started having problems mounting
disk images. So I decided to re-install the system. Everything works fine
now and I can burn CDs again.

I have to say, OS X makes it pretty painless to do a clean install of the
system and automatically move all of my preferences over. And when I install
updates, I always choose the option to download the update to disk so it was
relatively easy for me to get everything back up to 10.2.6.

I think my problems started when I was experimenting with various shareware
and freeware tools to make and burn Video CDs. Something was probably
overwritten or deleted.
