If you service your own PowerBook then you void the warranty.
Also, most of the Macs we're talking about here are out of warranty anyway. ---
I've seen many techs work on PowerBooks and I'll void my warranty gladly to do my own work.

The last time a certified Mac tech worked on my old Wall Street he broke something that wasn't broken when I took it in. I watched him do it.
Reminds me of when the fuel pump relay went on my Volvo. The guy who came out to fix it ripped half my dashboard to pieces just trying to get it. When he was going to put it back I kindly told him just leave it... ---
I'm going to trust me before I trust most any tech.
We can't classify everyone as idiots just because they (we) don't have the formal qualifications!
