If you service your own PowerBook then you void the warranty.

Also, most of the Macs we're talking about here are out of warranty anyway.

Indeed.

The last time a certified Mac tech worked on my old Wall Street he
broke something that wasn't broken when I took it in. I watched
him do it.

Reminds me of when the fuel pump relay went on my Volvo. The guy who came out to fix it ripped half my dashboard to pieces just trying to get it. When he was going to put it back I kindly told him just leave it...

Yes, the same thing certainly applies to cars.

I'm going to trust me before I trust most any tech.

We can't classify everyone as idiots just because they (we) don't have the formal qualifications!

Yeah, I'm not Mac certified, but as I teach in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the local university I've got a bit of a knowledge base edge on the average Mac tech.

Amazing that it took more than two days for my message to get to the list. My ISP must be having some kind of problem with the mail relay. I've had a few messages that were sent a couple or three days ago not show up on their respective lists for more than 48 hours. Which is what prompted my question earlier about list moderation.
