Here's further explanation of the problem with ITMS downloads burning to CDs
I can listen to. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm using my TiBook (667)
or my iBook (1G) to make the attempt, or whether I use Toast (most recent
version) or iTunes' burn command. I can burn the disc--but I can't get the
audio files I bought from ITMS to convert to MP3 so devices can play them.
Any help would be appreciated. I really don't want to have to duplicate my
purchases to listen to the music on different pieces of equipment.
Ahhh, light dawns. Protected AAC files (what you get from the ITMS) will not convert directly.
To convert them you burn the tracks to an Audio CD, then re-rip them back from the CD you burned.
Yes it's lossy, but it's unavoidable. Without some sort of protection there would be no ITMS, because none of the labels would have let their music be there.
