I think that's an old page with the max OS listed, not the original. I have a 600mhz iBook (third rev, 16VRAM) that came with 9.1 originally.

oops. It's not an "old page" really, but yer right - per Apple's site, the iBook 500 (Dual USB) originally shipped with OS 9.1. I've emailed Brock at EveryMac with the correction.
