Yes, but the original writer was referring to an *iBook* not a PowerBook.

It is clear from a quick perusal that

  a) the problem is fairly prevalent
  b) Apple techs are refusing to repair it
  c) people who are persistent are getting it repaired

Once again I have to admit my bias (since I work for one) and repeat that
buying from a local reseller can be a major help when Apple refuses to
repair a computer. Your reseller knows who to contact and how to go about it
to get a repair authorized. And the reseller has every reason to get that
repair. He wants your repeat business. To a customer support at the call
center you are a faceless case number.
