Although you should be careful, if the logic board has been replaced, and the display is working fine, the worst that is likely to happen is a hard disk or optical drive failure. How long has the machine been operating since it was repaired?
I went to look at the PowerBook today, the gey's a web designer and is still using it.
1. Car accident, the front left corner got bashed, smaller dent than I thought.
2. Later on (seperate incident) he damaged the sound out port when he used it as a huge iPod and got the cable caught on a door handle... :o/
3. Then the SuperDrive stopped working and he took it in for warranty repairs, they replaced the mobo due to the port and the SuperDrive as it had packed up.
That's it. It actually sounds a lot more straight forward than I initially thought. ---
There will almost certainly be a new generation of iBooks around by then, probably with upgraded graphics cards as current iBooks don't offer full support for CoreImage. PowerBooks do, which is something that you should consider when making your decision. Unless you want to wait months before getting a new computer, you'll have to buy Tiger separately, so this doesn't really enter into the equation.
I went in to a local Apple dealer and compared the iBook 12" and the PowerBook 12" (albeit newer than the one I'm looking at) and there is a significant difference in the screen quality and I asked about this. They said that the actual screen is the same, but the video card difference has that effect, which actually rules out the iBook for me.
So the 1GHz 12" PowerBook Al supports CorelImage ???
