Bruce:
Thanks for the reply. Don't think it is an issue with the car player, as both of them handle commercial pre-recorded audio disks fine when challenged with bumps in the road. At any rate, one is a Sony 10 disk changer, vertical mount in the trunk, while the other is a recent GM dash slot loader. I don't bump my computers when I play audio disks, but the disks do play fine in a stationary setting in either car or computer players.
What I am suspecting is that the burn intensity isn't quite the same, or whatever that helps the optical system track the data pattern and read the data off the disks. Problem arises either with OSX native burning from itunes or roxio toast light. Was able to get better results with toast, I think because one can force a given speed multiplier, while in iTunes, one can only recommend a burn speed.
Thing is, since I have no experience with other burners, I am unsure as to whether I am dealing with a deficient drive, a dirty drive, deficient media or simply that home burned audio disks are never quite as solid as commercial pre-recorded disks.
It is my understanding that LiteOn drives are extremely prevalent and of good quality overall. Just curious if my situation can be fixed, or is normal. Would consider this in seeking a replacement expansion bay unit for my Pismo.

I purchased a LaCie 52xCD burner some years ago. Music CDs tend to be skip prone even with the finest media and slowest burn speed when compared to commercial CDs in my car player. Used all applicable drive cleaners and compressed air. Bumps in the road, bass peaks, etc make the disks skip. The problem does seem to be lesser at the slower> speeds and finer quality media.
This is more of an issue with your car's player than the CDRW drive. How well do they play back on your computer?
What program are you using to burn the CD's?
Data disks seem to be reliable. The guts are a LiteOn mechanism that appears to be quite common. I have no other burner to compare to. Is this normal? Any suggestions?
I had a LiteOn 48-16-48 cdrw that was quite reliable in my 7600, then my beige.
