I have been trying out some various apple laptops, primarily for use as a writing tool, though I want to surf wirelessly. I love those 12" white iBooks and would buy a used one of those in a heartbeat, except I keep running into people who are having repair nightmares with them.
Are the white iBooks really just waiting to die? I just don't want to spend $350-$450 on a 12" iBook and have the logic board go after a few months.
Only one of the several students at school with white iBooks (of various vintage) has had to get a new one...and that was because her original one was stolen.
While there are troubles with some of them (and I'm sure someone on this list will come up with nightmarish stories just to contradict me) the large majority of them are just fine.
The Internet is a gigantic squeaky wheel amplifier. If you listen seriously to them Apple cannot get any working equipment out the door.
That said, my pismo is quite nice, but for portability, a 12" ibook is really hard to beat.
