No, the mac is nothing like the PC in the way its apps handle this kind of
data. Although I think that program is using a bit of fear mongering...

Microsoft seems intent on putting registry's in EVERYTHING to the point
where it's a joke, ie windows explorer is much more customizable because of
it, but scary stuff happens also... So, sooo many sites just download
garbage to your machine or modify your registry with Active X, etc.

An example would be of how much easier it is in the PC world to go to a
site, and suddenly have it appear in your bookmarks at the top as if by
magic... And the site can even set itself to be your homepage, or install
plugins... Its goofy.

Macs dont hve active X, and the mac browser is built around a different
design philosophy, so it doesn't work the same way.

If you really want to get rid of your browsing trail on the mac, deleting
the history files, etc will pretty much do it. Unfortunately, if anyone is
so inclined they could just subpoena your ISP, figure out what IP you were
on during different times, then start following your trail everywhere
(unless you go through an anonymizing server).

You do have lots of invisible files on your mac, but for the most part they
are temp files, used by applications that are working and if the app
misbehaves or you crash, they can still be there. I have some utilities to
automatically dump them if you're interested, but 9.1 really takes care of
most of it... And its more of a space issue than anything (ie, lets say you
crash working in photoshop... You can have 90+meg temp files hanging
around... Sucks.

There are also easier utilities for finding invisible files such as
"filegeek"
