Well, I went ahead and placed the order, the clincher being the super
friendly salesman on the phone who seemed so incredibly happy, almost
embarrassingly grateful, that I had placed an order.
(I had an image of the Maytag repairman in those old TV commercials, sitting
alone in his office waiting for the phone to ring).

To digress, the sales outlet is part of a national (Italian) chain that uses
a system where you place your order online, then they give you the name,
address and phone no. of the nearest outlet; the outlet then calls to
confirm your order and arrange either pickup or shipping. The outlet
salesman, as I mentioned, was very friendly, and when he found out where I
lived in Rome, even offered to bring it to my door personally (!) Will
wonders never cease.

With that kind of service, I figured I couldn't go too wrong for $90 -
actually $85 with the free delivery (at current exchange rates).

As to the Hip Zip, I had also been interested in it as a fast, portable
storage device, too, as 2 x 40MB is not bad at all.

As to software, I'll probably keep it in the family and use iTunes.

Thanks again.
