Microsoft does the majority of its packaging design and promotional product
design out of house. Every design firm in Seattle has Microsoft on its
client list. Landor's Seattle office was opened specifically to service MS
and The Leonardt Group does a lot of packaging and identity work for them,
too.

There are smaller firms out here that do nothing but help design &
maintenance the huge microsoft.com site. Ironically, my ex-boss was a
marketing manager for MS and he said they found that something like half the
pages they put up, never get read! This comes from their own server logs.
