Exhaust your possibilities: accelerateyourmac.com and macfixit.com have amazing databases, and accelerate's owner even answers his mail! Firmware upgrades have disabled out-of-spec Ram before, and sometimes as long as one month later. Check your energy control settings; - check your power supply (easy if you have an external PS that can drive your HDD); There was someone on this list who replaced (free?) the mob (something about the PCI controllers).
