I'm a new list member, so forgive me if this has been covered before...

I have a G3 All-in-One that has run smoothly since I got it in Nov. 98. Until last
week, that is. I came home from a meeting to a horrible overheating kinda smell, and a
monitor that was clicking like it was trying to come out of sleep mode, but couldn't.
I can use an external monitor just fine via the built-in port, but the internal still
clicks and pops like it's trying to come on every couple of seconds, so I'm afraid to
use the machine for any length of time. (I've been reduced to borrowing my roommate's
PC - bleah)

I may be mistaken, but shouldn't there be a way to disconnect the internal monitor and
just use the external until I can get the internal one in for service? What do you
guys think? I've downloaded a copy of the service manual, but I haven't been able to
really try anything yet. The electrical aspect of messing with a monitor scares me a
little, but is there a way to disconnect without a risk of shock? Meaning do I have to
take the whole thing apart, or can I just pull a plug somewhere? :-)

Thanks,
Jamie in SC
