I just picked up the M$ optical scrolly-wheel mouse at Future Slop ($30 CDN
and there's a $10 CDN rebate on the box ($5 US)) and am quite happy with it!
It's hands down better than Apple's optical mouse (the few times I've used
it it feels cheap and the click doesn't work to my liking plus with one
button it's a one-trick pony). Of course, you'd have to experiment with it
to see if you actually like its behaviour (& I suspect if you don't like the
Logitech you probably won't like the M$ mouse either).

OS X automagically (no more one-button mice <yeah>... & I've been a Mac user
since the very beginning!!!) recognises the left & right buttons and the
scroll wheel. It treats the scroll-wheel's click as a regular click (left
button). In OS 9 all the buttons (2+1) function as a regular click and the
scroll wheel does nothing.

M$'s Intellipoint software supposedly (haven't installed it so don't know)
allows you to programme the buttons but I don't really want to install any
extra software in OS 9. OS 9.2.1 has already rendered by (yeah, I have a
stubbed node ;) computer less stable than 9.1 so I don't want to add to the
problems (Explorer 5.0 & the Finder have crashed in *weird* ways a few times
on me whereas they were rock-solid stable under 9.1 & 9.0.4).
