Linksys 8-port 100/10 switch.

My system includes:

Speadstream 5260 DSL modem <--> Linksys Router/5 port 100/10 switch <-->
Linksys 8-port 100/10 switch <--> Macs and printers.

The fact that the router communicates with the switch at 100/10 full-duplex
(100 is always selected) appears to speed up e-mail and other very short jobs
dramatically.

Easily by a factor of 20, as the short packets can be acknowledged as the new
ones are coming in.

The full-duplex, non-blocking nature of the switches is partly responsible.
The 100 Mbps data rate is also responsible.

The DSL modem to router path remains at 10 MBps, of course.
