$40 is about the cheapest price you'll find, and you might want to bump it up a little... 10mb hubs are fine for just sharing an ADSL connection, and even gaming. Really, the 10mb connection is on the order of 9-10x faster than your DSL line (unless you have a snazzy business account one). Now, where it can get tricky is if you have other stuff going on... If you can spend the money on switch, do it. The difference between a switch and a hub is fairly simple, basically a hub acts like a traffic intersection with no cops... The packets are constantly crashing into each other if you have multiple things going on on the network. If packets collide, the computer detects it and sends it again, etc. A switch is like having a traffic cop there directing traffic, it keeps things from colliding and puts everything exactly where it needs to go. Not only will your network performance drastically improve, it will really help your ping rates for multiplay games (online really, if you are just playing locally you're already saturating what the software is expecting to get back). Now adays a switch will cost you $10-$15 more than a comparable hub... But the first time you are playing unreal and your brother desides to print a big file or transfer a bunch of data, you'll be glad you have it. :) -- Michael Bryan Bell http://homepage.mac.com/michael_bell/ -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
