Probably wrong levels.  Make sure when you buy it it can be returned 
if it's no use to you.

I mentioned this before, but I don't think the post went thru.
Radio Shack has a two channel volume control for headsets. It comes with 1/8
inch stereo plugs on each end, one male one female. This might be what you
need to cut down the volume from the tape out port.
