I don't know about you, but if I needed a new system (if my iMac broke) I'd go to http://www.headgap.com (click on store). Many of their systems are sub-$300 and have G3/300 and G3/400 processors. Only problem is that they are upgraded PM7000 series machines (if I remember straight.) They also only come with 2-4MB VRAM which could be a problem if you do a lot of gaming or graphics work. However I suppose you could put in a 16 or 32MB ATi on your own. And of course, they are easily G4 upgradeable if you need that additional power some day.
They have some pretty good specials and a low-end G3 (300MHz/128MB/2GB/2VRAM) starts at about $270. They are refurbished OR bought from businesses that moved over to PCs. I'm not sure what they ship as default OS (I emailed them and got no response, then again it was just Thursday.) I might pick up one of the home-brewed specials if I somehow find the money. For $400 you can get a system with respectable RAM and processor. And G4-ready (droooool.) The high spectrum of their product line is a G4/500 for $1200 I think. 512MB RAM, 40 gig hard drive. If they would just throw in a ATi Rage Pro with 16MB it would be a great system for anything you could throw at it. Insted its got a Rage IIc maxed at 6MB (I think.) As for monitors, I do believe that they have some refurbished Mac-compatible monitors in the $100 range. Best of all, free shipping to anywhere in the great 48 --- and no tax outside of Tennesee. --Michael Ryan -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
