My G3 ROM and Mobo are Revision C. The production date is 12/22/1998. The
HDD I want to install is a DSAA 350 MB IBM out of a Performa 638CD. I think
the spindle speed is 4200 RPM which is slow compared to todays drives. The
wiring hookup appears to be the same thing as the G3 with a 40 pin data
cable and 4 wire power cable. Will this drive work on IDE bus 1 with the CD
and if so should I run it as master or slave? Any and all replies greatly
appreciated.

Yes.

Master or Slave theoretically doesn't matter as they are really "peers" of
each other.

However, I would be consistent with Beige G3 de-facto standards and set the
drive behind the CD-ROM as Slave. Leave the CD-ROM as Master.

BTW, Peter, you seem to be the man on G3's, where can I lay my
hands on a repair manual for this machine? Beige G3 DT/266. >>
