I would agree, get the new iBook.  It will have a factory warranty and
especially if you get AppleCare (a must for laptops) -- you can protect your
investment if something goes wrong.  Due to the mobile nature of laptops I
would buy a used desktop long before I would buy a used laptop because of
the fragility of laptops.  If you are going to use this to replace your old
laptop why buy something that already has 2 years on it?  I say go for the
iBook.  Good luck with whatever you decide on.
