List,

Thanks for all the insight I've received from
subscribing. Ive been stumped with the following
problem that started about 5 months ago and appears to
be getting worse. I have a G3 beige tower; 300Mhz,
640 RAM, OS 8.6, original 8G HD with a QPS FireWire
card and a Macsense USB card.

The problem is that when I turn on the power, it takes
over 30 seconds for the Happy Mac screen to appear.
It also takes the same amount of time when I do a
restart. I have all the Apple Share control panels
turned off, read various books and checked out every
possible item I could find on the web. While Im
waiting for the Happy Mac, I hear a faint tic about
every 5 to 10 seconds. Im beginning to think my HD
might be getting ready to bite the dust...

Any suggestions would be most helpful. Thanks in
advance.

Van Matthews
