On my Beige G3 MT (not sure about rev. A or B), holding down the option 
key at startup doesn't do anything, nor
will it, apparently, ever. On later computers (the Blue and Whites?), 
you need OS X and OS 9 installed on separate partitions for this to 
work. Which computer do you have?
