Hi,
in the G3 B/W you can press at power-up the ALT key and the
Mac shoul boot from the first partition in your HD.
I have OS9 in my first partition as emergency and also for scanning
and eventually run an old version of Word.
OSX and Classic are in the second one, the third is for swap.
