There is a solution:
- install a firewire card (quite inexpensive)
- install iMovie2 (anyone with a recent Mac should have a copy)
- hookup with wirefire cable a Sony digital camcorder(borrow from a
friend)which has "video in"(I'm not sure that all models have video in).
So, video out from your VCR to video in on the Sony, and thank Sony for
allowing their camcorders to act like analog/digital converters.
- capture your video to a large hard drive
The quality will be as good as your original material. After all that work,
I would try to find someone who can burn DVDs. My drive for video stuff is
an external 80 gig firewire. That allows me to easily transport my files to
a more powerful machine. My computer is a beige G3 DT (revA) upgraded to
G4/500 and am very happy with its iMovie capabilities.
