sounds like the scsi chain may be terminated wrong, which can cause all kinds of problems for the os. the last external drive should have termination on, the other drives should have their termination turned off. if some of the drives are internal the last internal drive should also be terminated, otherwise don't worry about that end of the chain, the scsi card should take care of it. other than that i'd say try resetting the pram etc. with the button by the battery (which will reset everything).
