The mac finally boots, and I cant >check email or anything.. I try to login to my Router and IE just sits there >and hangs. I actually have to force quit it to get it to stop. Its the >BEFSR41, 4 port switch DSL router.. Linksys wont talk to me cause its a Mac >(why does that really make a difference when its an HTML based setup >program??). The router is only like 8 months old. Do they have that short of >a lifespan? Im about to hook up my PC and see what happens when I try to >connect to the router. Then they have to support me hehe.. > >If anyone can think of anything other than powering it down and resetting it >please let me know! >
You do have to reset, that is for certain, make sure you go back to your factory defaults. Also, call LinkSys back and tell them you have a PC :-) I just saw that line in your email, good idea. They shouldn't die. Parts don't die because of age, they die because of either lack of good care or poor craftsmanship. I would suspect the latter on this piece of equipment. The reason OS X takes so long is that you *likely* have many services that requires the net and thus needs that leased IP. If you could see all the ok/failed services you would see that it is not directing the IP you need to your computer. Are you using DHCP on a private network on the router? Have you considered using a static IP set?
