Excuse my briefness - typing with a platercast on your hand is a pain - 
but what you "corrected" is the situation I meant anyway. Sorry for 
being unclear. Here in Germany, newer house wiring is usually shielded - 
not cat 5 unless very new. And it goes without saying, when you 
"rededicate" the wiring for a LAN, that you are at the end of each 
segment, and that there is no phone stuff hooked up any more.
By putting the cordless base stations at the frontend along with the 
splitter and the DLS modem, I ws able to disconnect the entire house, 
and run entire cable segments from the  router to upstairs and a switch, 
and downstairs and another switch. Simple as that.
