>>SNIP<< I would like to pose something to the list: The 233 with 10.1.5 never ran faster or better under any of the installed classic OS' and: even if you clock it up to 300Mhz OS X will still be slow. I think that 'Fast' is used too loosely in the list. 'Fast' is a relative term. When you all say fast, what are you refferencing it to? For some people, 'Fast' is a PPC 603e@80MHz (like my friend Viv, who uses and old 6100/60). For some people, a 233MHz G3 running OS X may be fine and dandy by their speed standards. For some people (like me) a 400MHz G4 isn't fast enough. It just depends on what you do with your computer. For someone running Office and maybe a bit of Graphic Converter work, CD burning and such, a 233-300 MHz G3 running 10.1.5 is ideal. For people that like to use their Mac for gaming, a 400MHz B&W running 10.1.5 is a great gaming machine (if you upgrade the video card). If you're like me and you design games like Quake 3, you would need a fast processor and a LOT of RAM to go with it. If you wanted to know, I have a B&W G4/450MHz 20GB HD (1 10GB ATA66, 1 10GB UW SCSI) 1GB RAM Radeon 7000 PCI Rage 128 PRO Applesync 17" Display Apple 15" Multiscan Display DVD ROM and even this machine gets a bit slow (by my standards) when I am editing a Quake level, editing textures in PS 7, running eQuake in a 640x480 window in the background, running mi (a fantastic code editor for OS X), on AIM and ICQ with Fire, iTunes blasting, checking Mail and browsing with OmniWeb. Sometimes I am also ripping MP3 streams with StreamRipperX and downloading with Limewire. As you can see by this, I am kinda nutty when I'm on the comp. I am sure a lot of the users in this list are the same...but take into consideration that not everyone wants that kind of computing horsepower (or needs it!) If all you are doing is running Office, you dont need a godlike Mac to do it. I mean, I dont use this box for writing. I have an old Macintosh SE with the optional hard disk and Macwrite for that: ) If you are a multitasking nut, then, by all means, go out and get a DP G4 1.25GHz. Otherwise, a G3 and OS X 10.5.1 with about 512 MB is a fine machine for everyday use. -Josh Allen Mac Nut for 5 years and counting... -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
