I think  there is a bit a confusion here. The original post was questions
about Flat Panel LCD monitors. This post is about  Flat Screen CRT monitors.
As for flat panel LCD monitors, I have used Apple's, Viewsonic's, and some
off brands(Gem). If you can't afford the Apple, Viewsonic is a nice choice.
I have a 17 inch that does 1280 x 1024. I also have a KDS 15 inch that has
great color too. Both of these use the analog VGA connector. As with most, I
wish apple had used the DVI connector, but I can understand why they didn't.
With the emphasis on clean lines, and proprietary nature of the interface,
and the requirement for applecare to purchase the monitor with the computer.
It should surprise no one that Apple came up with a different connector.
