sorry, that should have said that the ip spoofers were trying to get into my bios eeprom, which of course is a pc thing but is a fine way to mess up a machine and certainly not something a remote party should be trying to do if i didn't ask them to. the party involved made several attempts to get into my bios over a period of at least 15 minutes.
and i do have to apologize, in this case it was more than likely benign, but deliberate extensive port scanning on the other hand should not be taken lightly. -- "Security is mostly a superstition.
