I may be way off base here, but maintaining the link between About this Mac and the System Profiler seems to be the sort of cleanup stuff that X is supposed to do while you're sleeping. If you're not leaving you computer on all night, you might want to try running MacJanitor. I used it successfully when I was having a very similar problem -- Disk Copy would quit because it couldn't open a linked "helper application." HTH, Mitch.
