I believe this is a true statement: OS X does support serial ports, 
generally, but the print center doesn't. So, dial-up networking should 
find your modem, but print center will not even look for a anything 
connected to the serial port.

Moreover, I don't believe there's any support for a StyleWriter, no 
matter how it's connected, though there might be ways to use one though 
3rd party means. Unless someone gives you serial to USB converter and 
you feel up to finding software to make it work, I'd suggest you 
replace the printer.
