Holding down the "C" key on startup does not take you to a startup disk 
screen, it only forces the machine to attempt to boot from the CD-ROM 
drive. I think you meant to say hold down the option key, which does 
take you to a screen where you can choose the boot device. Too bad the 
Beige G3 does not support the option on boot trick.

My machine has one disk, the original 4 Gig. It is not partitioned. So 
even if I could hold down the option key and choose a boot device, it 
would not help because the option trick only lets you choose a device, 
not a system folder on a device. In my situation the only thing that 
can choose between booting into 9 and X is a startup disk control 
panel. I really need to get a second large drive.
